One of the most exciting things for me as an archaeologist yesterday in @MuseumHalle‘s #Klimagewalten was to finally see the #DolniVestonice figurine head and mask in original.
29,000 y/o, these may be among the oldest known depiction of a specific #IceAge individual we know of!
Finally, what really stunned me were the particularly individual scratchings of faces (also from #LaMarche in #France, 15,000 years old). #Klimagewalten
These almost look like modern caricatures - and I bet these people very well recognized who was depicted here.
And that scraping of a woman from #LaMarche, #France (about 15,000 years old)! #Klimagewalten
Better not to post this at facebook, though. 😉
And the archaeological part of the exhibition! Some real gems there at @MuseumHalle‘s #Klimagewalten!
This reindeer rib from #GourdanPolignan, #France (13,000-12,000 years old), for instance, depicting a whole group of people. Quite fascinating (am I too easily entertained?).
When an exhibition already starts with a room full of stuffed animals like in #Klimagewalten, the pencil has not much of a rest.
So many facinating faces!
Aaaand, there‘s also one for the classicists here at #Klimagewalten!
Skull of a pygmy elephant ... or Cyclops? - Your turn, @amayor. ;-)
Also quite fascinating to find an actual reconstruction of G. W. Leibniz‘s famous #Protogaea-#Unicorn among all these other #Klimagewalten fossils! 🦄👌
They really wanted to start #Klimagewalten with a bang ...
Guess who‘s coming for #IceAge-dinner? ;-)
Alright, made it to @MuseumHalle‘s "#Klimagewalten" exhibition and got my stuff sorted:
ticket ☑️
sketchbook ☑️
pencils ☑️
couple of hours time ☑️
#IceAge and #ClimateChange here I come! 😉
Great. Finally could make some time for visiting @MuseumHalle's #Klimagewalten exhibition (before it closes next week) ... only to realise I already packed all my sketchbooks. 🤦♂️😬
Okay, should be in one of those boxes ...
