A pair of yellow hand knit socks. They have knit-on patches on the heels, duplicate stitch and darning to repair a few holes, and the toes have been removed and replaced. The repairs are done in contrasting yarn that is white with short bits of black, yellow, red, and green.
Today's repairs. The pre-darning has revealed how thin the midfoot yarn has gotten so I'm not sure how long they'll make it before coming back for more. 🤷♂️

A pair of repaired socks is laid flat, right side out. They are made of dark green tweed yarn, with a lighter yellow, white, and gray CC. The CC is used for stranded colorwork on the legs. A purple and blue self-striping yarn has been used to reknit the toe-ward half of the left sock, and to make several repairs on the right sock's instep.

The toe end of a hand knit sock. It's made of variegated yarn with pale blue and beige and short stretches of black. The knitter's hand is inside to demonstrate a large fuzzy moth hole under the ball of foot area.
The sock and its mate are laid out flat on their sides to show repairs, which have all been done in a solid medium gray yarn. The right sock has a large knitted-on patch covering most of the ball of foot area. The left sock has a small area of duplicate stitch under the ball of the foot, a medium patch at the side of the instep near the ankle, and a medium patch at the bottom of the leg.
The socks laid out again, with the left sock flipped over to show another medium patch on the other side, also at the bottom of the leg.
This makes 21 pairs restored, out of 27. I'm getting near the end of this project!

The leg of a hand knit sock in pale yarn with blue and purple speckles. The cuff and the top of the leg have sustained heavy moth damage, with a large patch entirely missing. Needles have been threaded through the stitches below the damage, in preparation to remove and reknit the area.
The pair of socks has been repaired. Both are laid flat, inside-out. The damaged cuff has been reknit in a variegated yarn with fiery black, yellow, orange, and ash colors. The toes have been reknit in a semisolid aqua yarn, then pre-darned to reinforce the fabric.

A pair of handknit socks in a reddish brown variegated colorway, laid out flat. Both have had the toe area removed and reknit in deep blue tweed. One also has some lighter blue yarn at the very end of the toe, since there was not quite enough tweed to finish.
Not only was this pair chewed up by moths, but they were in my hands the moment I (ahem) suddenly discovered I had food poisoning. Then they took a long not-delicate trip through the washer for cleanup.
These socks are SURVIVORS.

A hand-knit sock with yellow, red, green, brown, and cream stripes. The sole side is displayed. From the ball of the foot to the end of the toe, there is more hole than there is sock.
The sock is shown with a newly knitted toe portion. The damaged toe has been removed, and sits beside. The leg has a few small spots of darning to fix minor holes.
The mate of the previous sock. It is also damaged in the toe area, but much less severely. Several stitch markers indicate holes and thin spots so I won't overlook any when ready to repair.
More recovery from the moth rampage. One toe was irreparable so I knit a fresh one. Debating whether to do the same for its mate. Leaning toward yes, so they match in feel/lifespan. Husband is rough on the area so there's a fair difference right now.
