So generally the results are on par with their 2015 showing as they achieved similar support in Klaksvík. However, they did manage 16%+ in Runavík back then, so they still have a bit of work to do to get to those levels. Nearly 3% in the capital is impressive given they've struggled there. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26

The numbers that Sjálvstýri achieved at the election shows how well they did at rebuilding. Their best results came in their traditional strongholds of Klaksvík and Runavík (7.6% and 6.7%) respectively, as well as getting 2.7% in Tórshavn (where they've not managed similar for 20 years). 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
Former Faroese PM and leader of the Union Party, Bárður á Steig Nielsen is the new Foreign minister. A very important position given the current state of the world. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
The Faroe Islands have unveiled their new government today. A mixture of centre-left and centre-right parties including Fólkaflokkurin, Sambandsflokkurin, Javnaðarflokkurin.
The new PM Beinir Johannesen comes from Fólkaflokkurin and replaces his uncle from Javnaðarflokkurin as PM. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
The leader of Sjálvstýri, Sámal Petur i Grund has been christened the 'comeback kid' both for his work and personal life. After his divorce he felt isolated and left parliament previously with a cloud hanging over him. Now he's got the party back into parliament and rebuilt himself. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
As far as I could see, Sjálvstýri was the only party to have any of their website translated into English. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
I've always found the Faroe Islands extremely friendly and welcoming. This is reflected in their politics too, with one of the parties, the centre-liberal Sjálvstýri, having their vision translated into English. They're keen to help foreigners integrate to solve the brain drain. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
As part of the new government coalition, they want greater autonomy with an EFTA deal and the ability to do their own trade agreements with the EU. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
The new Faroe Islands government is being unveiled right now. It'll be led by Beinir Johannesen (who's only 29) of Fólkaflokkurin (People's Party - centre-right) and will be joined by Sambandsflokkurin (Union Party - centre-right) and Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democratic - centre-left). 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
It's been just over a week since the Faroese election. Here's what their new parliament (Løgting) looks like.
From left to right:
Tjóðveldi (6) (N/C)
Javnaðarflokkurin (6) (-3)
Sjálvstýri (1) (+1)
Framsókn (2) (-1)
Sambandsflokkurin (7) (N/C)
Fólkaflokkurin (9) (+3)
Miðflokkurin (2) (N/C)

The leader of Fólkaflokkurin (People'sParty) (and likely next PM) Beinir Johannesen has stated that the reason for the preferred coalitionwith Sambandsflokkurin (Union Party) and Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democratic) is because it offers a strong government during uncertain world times. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
After the election, they're the three biggest parties in Løgting. So, it's arguably the strongest government for many years in terms of seats. Previously, most governments would include a minor party to give it a majority. Not surprised with this outcome given it'll be a pretty stable gov't. #LV26
It seems like the favoured coalition after the Faroe Islands election is an ABC one that'll be led by Fólkaflokkurin (People's Party). It'll include Sambandsflokkurin (Union Party) and Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democratic) too, giving them a 5 seat majority (22/33 seats). 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
Obviously, if this were to happen they'd need an extra coalition partner due to only having 15 seats, but need 17 for a majority. The only option in this scenario would be Sambandsflokkurin (B) who have 7 seats or possibly Tjóðveldi (E) who have 6.
A+B+C=22
A+C+E=21
🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
Potentially, another option would be Fólkaflokkurin (A) forming a government with Javnaðarflokkurin (C), which I don't think has been done for over 25 years. The outgoing PM, Aksel V. Johannesen, has said he'd be open to this coalition, meaning the new PM Beinir Johannesen would be his nephew. #LV26
Out of the 33 elected MPs, only two are under 30 while most are over the age of 59. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
I thought beforehand that Fólkaflokkurin (A) and Sambandsflokkurin (B) would get enough seats to form a coalition. However, they may have to rely on Miðflokkurin, which I'm not sure about given that it was them who brought the A+B+H gov't down in 2022.
Other options IMO:
A+B+D=17
A+B+F=18

Great set of photos from behind the scenes and during the election night hosted by public broadcaster KVF. It offers a good insight into how the Faroese cover their election. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
I can't say I'm surprised with Miðflokkurin decrease in their vote given that this election they used more extreme rhetoric in terms of wanting to reinstate the abortion ban, block certain immigration, ban Mosques (there's 0 in the Faroes).
🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
Pleased to see that Sjálvstýri are back in parliament having rebuilt the foundations of the party. Sámal Petur í Grund has been in the party for years and took interim charge initially when the party was in disarray. In this regard, he is similar to Vince Cable (Lib Dems) in some respects.
🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
My seat prediction was nearly correct. The only difference being that I said Fólkaflokkurin would get 10 sears and Framsókn would lose an extra seat and end with 1. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
Now all of the votes have been counted, they're having a post-election discussion between the leaders (who all received a mandate) in the studio. 🇫🇴🗳 #LV26
