Kudos to the AV team at #LWTSummit for doing the *exact* right timing to cut back/forth between my reading from slides and my elaborating on points, with interpretation. And, of course, thanks to the interpreting team.

Okay, other a11y notes: while the venue has accessible seating and bathrooms for wheelchair users, I am not noticing any option other than stairs to get on stage. This could be a problem for a wheelchair user to speak at Stage 48. ♿ access matters. #LWTSummit
In the green room at #LWTSummit getting ready for my talk on how to influence your peers and ensure your team is as effective as possible, which will be at 2:30pm EDT!
Okay, program is resuming at 2pm, which means I might be on sooner than 2:30pm. will update here as I can. #LWTSummit
We're all together whether for profit, government, or non-profit.
@NathalieMolina wants us to insist on shortcuts and demand them, and tell the world, with our courage in this room. [fin] #LWTSummit
Everything that we do and are intersects. Our entrepreneurship is political, much like our ovaries. [ed: please please to be trans-inclusive. some of us don't have ovaries.]
We're all connected. We need to hear the stories of women. -- @NathalieMolina #LWTSummit
But the people in power have taken shortcuts. The message @NathalieMolina wants us to take away is to change the system. Today, we have to make lemonade out of the lemons we have, by creating our own shortcuts. 170 years is horseshit. We owe it to everyone to leapfrog. #LWTSummit
Women of color don't want shortcuts or cheating. We are so used to being surrounded by -isms telling us the only reason we're here is because of tokenism and affirmative action. We are so collectively traumatized that we try to be perfect. #LWTSummit
Otherwise we're going to see women owned businesses having a higher rate of failure and being blamed for it because they're women rather than because of their capital stack.
It needs to take less time than 170 years to get to equality. #LWTSummit
Getting VC into the hands of women and people of color. People need to talk to them though about debt and having a balanced capital stack though. Not giving up too much of your company. Line of credit to get people through tough times so they don't go under. #LWTSummit
The first woman to run a bank in the United States preceded the 19th amendment and the first woman in Congress; even the civil rights movement. Her name is Maggie Lena Walker in the year 1902. #LWTSummit
Hanky Panky got 170 employees at their factory in Jamaica, Queens and to announce their exit with an employee stock ownership plan, to give the company to their employees. #LWTSummit
You don't have to give up your business and focus on quick growth and an acquisition, @NathalieMolina says "bite me." #LWTSummit
So @nathaliemolina wrote a book called leapfrog to do exactly that. doing things our own way, not doing things the way SIlicon Valley advocates. VC is not the only game in town. #LWTSummit
Meanwhile women are starting more businesses than men. and 8/10 of women-started businesses are by women of color.
For fuck's sake, someone write a book from our perspective, for those that look and live like us. The underestimated in @ArlanWasHere's words. #LWTSummit
Because I've never opened a book on business and found something that resonates for me as a latina, as a woman, and as someone who doesn't have family wealth.
Failing fast doesn't work for us. -- @nathaliemolina #LWTSummit
Next up is @NathalieMolina on startup hacks for people without trust funds. #LWTSummit
We're living in a world that is filled with so much ego dressed up as authenticity. We need the real you now more than ever. -- @ingridnilsen [fin] #LWTSummit
We owe it to ourselves to listen, even when it's hard. Being a great leader isn't about perfection. It's about having the courage to step into humility. That's where you find the real you. #LWTSummit
Even if it looked less prepared, perfect, or professional.
The last ten years have taught me that betraying my instincts is never right. We have to trust our instincts as leaders. #LWTSummit
I was going to pretend to not be exhausted and act out "here's how to be zen under stress". But my instinct told me not do that. You are not Zen right now, but nice try. It told me not to fake my original presentation. -- @ingridnilsen #LWTSummit
It actually means the opposite of failure. It means I respect myself and my work enough to be honest. It means I will ask for help when I need it. So, I'm up here today with notes in hand pretty much winging it for the most part, because I was about to hit a wall. #LWTSummit
All the time, we hear "you can do it". Extending yourself is valuable, but there's also a point of over-extension. I think that sometimes the best thing we can do is to say "I can't." -- @ingridnilsen #LWTSummit
"I felt defeated. I kept telling myself to come on and suck it up and push harder. but I realized that's not what I'd say to someone else. Instead, I'd say that it is okay. You are human." -- @ingridnilsen #LWTSummit
"Being honest about where you are is the first and most important step, and is the key to every solution down the road." -- @ingridnilsen
Just couldn't memorize another outline, script, or presentation. #LWTSummit
Was going to talk about how to manage stress and exhaustion, but now I am in the depth of the pools of exhaustion, says @ingridnilsen. just doggie paddling around trying to keep head above water. #LWTSummit
That's the perfectionist in me talking says @ingridnilsen. but I've built my career off building authentic, yet the more success I have, the harder it is to be vulnerable
my audience, brand partners, and myself expect perfection. lot less room to make mistakes. #LWTSummit
