It's The Times so I'm sceptical until I see it reported elsewhere.
It would be a pointlessly negative move that would not help ease the current issues. The only ones to benefit would be the oil corps selling the stuff on global markets. I expected better from Millie and.

Today my friend put £125 of fuel into his car tank after a 20 minute #TrumpQueue. I woke up this morning with a full tank that cost me no time and £4.86. Oh, and my cost is about to fall from 8.1p to 6.5p per unit to £3.90.
I'm sick of paying tax to subsidise fossil fuels.

There are things that MIGHT work, like direct Sulphur injection at high altitude, Iron enrichment of the oceans etc etc. The problem is they might end up making things worse. Science is considering this now.

Our oil and gas gets sold into the world market where it is a tiny drop. As such more of it won't put prices down and it won't increase supply, it will just enrich fossil fuel producers and impoverish the rest of us trying to reduce #CO2e to survive!

To me it looks like we are transitioning (starting around 2000) from a very worrying straight line increase in global heat content to an alarm curving up in the global heat content.
We are headed much deeper into catastrophic tipping point territory, much more quickly. :-(

I think the equilibrium sea level rise for +2°C (presuming we just get to net zero and don't extract CO2e) will eventually leave your home underwater or close to.

Sometimes I read a paper and feel an awful sense of dread. Ripple etal's paper "The risk of a hothouse Earth trajectory" just did exactly that.
