This is an original hand-carved linoleum block print showing the rabbit and the Chinese characters tu-z which he appears to observe. The rabbit is in a bright white patch carved away from a black background to suggest it is bathed in moonlight. The rabbit is printed in environmentally-friendly water-based block-printing ink on handmade Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper in an edition of 30 prints. The sheets are 6 " (15.2 cm) wide by 12.5" (31.8 cm) tall.
Thinking of rabbits, here’s a real throwback to my Chinese zodiac series. I wanted this rabbit to appear bathed in moonlight to allude to the legend of the rabbit in the moon.

One of my subjects for the last c.16 years has been Stockport, especially its old town, industrial buildings & the great Viaduct. This is a small linocut, in different colourways, from a drawing I did a few years ago.

My linocuts print shows a golden brown nest filled with bunny rabbits and the words “A nest of Rabbits” in black. The n and t are linked by a curve and e and s are oval so the word nest looks like a line drawing of eggs in a nest. The letters in “Rabbits” mimic the shape of seated rabbits, rabbit heads from above or rabbit noses with whiskers.
It still feels cold for spring here but it’s a week until Easter so I am thinking about a nest of rabbits, part of my terms of venery series of linocuts for collective names for animals.
