James Haney, historian and 'Southern gentleman,' remembered for devotion to McDowell County history “Jim gave everything he had to the preservation and interpretation of local history,” said friend and fellow historian Anne Swann.

“[James Haney] wrote and edited … ‘McDowell County, North Carolina, 1843-1943,’ which was published in 2002 by Arcadia Publishing Co. as part of the firm’s ‘Images of America’ series.”

All Helene-damaged Blue Ridge Parkway sections to reopen by end of 2026 They expect the section between Linville Falls and Spruce Pine, which supports the town of Little ‌Switzerland, will be reopened "sooner than the end of the year."

GOOD NEWS: “The National Park Service plans to reopen all roads closed by Tropical Storm Helene along the #BlueRidgeParkway by the end of 2026. Parkway staff continue repairs on about 45 landslides across 40 miles.”
