Just to the right of centre a group of very pale yellow flowers with darker yellow centres with orange lines radiating from the centre of the flower. There is another flower top left slightly out of focus. They're growing up through grass and some thin dead twigs. Their leaves are a dark crinkly green.

The first of our Primroses are just starting to flower in The Slade entrance to the Valley. 😊
Planted by our volunteers over a number of years, they're one more #SignsOfSpring.

To the left of the photo a young man in dark blue clothing is holding a rake with yellow prongs above a pile of cut reed and rush. In the centre a young woman in bright red bobble hat, dark top and bright green leggings also has a rake. Immediately behind the cut reed is a dark green drag sheet, and running from left to right is a brown boardwalk. Behind that is an area of green vegetation.

Delighted to welcome two new volunteers to the Valley this week! They were quickly put to work raking the west fen and carrying the cut material to build up the eroded banks of the Lye Brook.

Earlier this month, our team spotted Marsh Arrowgrass (Triglochin palustris) during a #LocalWildlifeSite survey near Crawley. While not particularly rare, this species can be tricky to identify until it flowers or fruits β€” making this a lovely find!

I think we've reached peak Kidney Vetch at Rock Edge on what was formerly amenity grassland. Amazing transformation thanks to volunteers and a
#NoMow policy from Oxford City Council.

At the front right is a bench on a pavement. Behind it is a mass of yellow and white flowers (Kidney Vetch and Ox-eye Daisies). At the back of the photo are houses flanked by a few trees. The sky is a light blue with cumulus clouds.

Our project with Oxford City Council to bring wildflowers back to the amenity grassland at Rock Edge is bearing fruit. Ox-eye Daisies slowly spreading across the whole site, and this profusion of flowers by Old Road is just stunning! #SSSI #LocalWildlifeSite #OX3 #WildFlowerHour

We were gifted a washing up bowl full of Primroses this week! Our volunteers wasted no time in planting them amongst a mass of Garlic Mustard to make our rather unattractive entrance a little more colourful. 😊

Just planted seven healthy Horseshoe Vetch (Hippocrepis comosa) plants at Rock Edge in one of the new scrapes. This is a species that was historically recorded from this old quarry and had disappeared. We're reintroducing it. πŸ˜€

A valley filled with a riot of plants and flowers, crowding up to and over a boardwalk which runs through the centre of the photo. There's a small information board just left of centre. The sky is blue with lots of white clouds, with some black. It's lined with trees.

It's #WorldWetlandsDay, and this is the Lye Valley SSSI fen, an internationally rare habitat right in the middle of East Oxford. Home to rare plants and insects, its peat acts as a huge carbon store. Find out more here: www.friendsoflyevalley.org.uk

It's Primula time in the Valley! πŸ˜ƒ
Our first Primroses (Primula vulgaris) are now in flower, and our first Cowslip (Primula veris) is very nearly almost out! Both in The Slade entrance to the Lye Valley.

Some of you may be aware that many years ago we had an old (and rather slippy) wooden boardwalk running through the Valley. What many won't realise is that it's still there, running below the new one. Here's a glimpse of history!
