Last week, House State/Local Transpo Appropriations met for a public overview of the roads and transit funding deal. Today at noon, they'll hear a presentation from MDOT's Office of Rail for the first time since the budget passed. Tune in! #MILegTransit

Michigan's latest transportation funding deal has a lot of moving parts. Let's break it down.
We (finally) have a budget | #MILegTransit

Local Bus Operating Assistance recommendation: Increase of $15.0 million, all restricted (dedicated) funds
The Michigan Senate proposed Local Bus Operations budget for FY25-26 is $241.75M, $15M more than the Governor's rec. This would still be a $5M overall decrease, but it's less precipitous than last year's $15M drop.
Now we wait for the House. #MILegTransit

#MILegTransit update: The State Senate will release its proposed transportation budget tomorrow (Thurs. 5/1) in the Appropriations subcommittee at noon. Real question is how the House will counter it.
One thing seems certain: We are not making the typical June 30th deadline this year. Buckle up.
UPDATE: Governor Whitmer has announced a dedicated $250M for "local bus services alongside building new transit projects" as part of a $3B roads plan.
It's currently unclear how this would be split between operations and capital projects. #MILegTransit

This week in Lansing: Governor Whitmer's Executive Budget was presented to House and Senate Appropriations. The full formula funding proposal for roads and transportation will be announced next week.

I've updated my legislative directory page with the new transit-related committee assignments for the 103rd Legislature. The old committee rosters are still available on a separate page. #MILegTransit

Gongwer News Service headline reads "House Committee Announcements: Yes, this is later than usual"
Last session, House committees were assigned and had all met once by the end of Week 3. This time it's Week 4 and we still don't know who will be in charge of what (hence the lack of #MILegTransit updates). Soon?
It's almost budget season again, who's ready #MILegTransit
Committee appointments in the 103rd Legislature have yet to be announced, but we do have the modified list of standing policy committees in the House. Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure has been renamed to simply Transportation and Infrastructure, same as the Senate. #MILegTransit
The House adjourned sine die moments ago, officially bringing the 102nd Legislature to a close. I've refreshed the lame duck page on my blog one final time.
#MILegTransit will return in 2025.
HB 4491 crossed over to the Senate yesterday and was referred to the Committee on Government Operations along with *checks notes* 148 other bills, per the Journal. #MILegTransit

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: The version of HB 4491 that just passed the House is Sub H-5, which modifies the e-bike incentive to $500 or 90% for income-qualified residents. Same criteria. Other Michigan residents are no longer eligible.
Clearly, concessions had to be made to get the 56 votes. #MILegTransit
Wayne Countywide Transit has passed the Local Government Committee 8-3-1.

🚨 MICHIGAN: House Bill 6088, the bill that will opt-in all of Wayne County pending a millage renewal, has been introduced by Representative Farhat of Dearborn at the request of Wayne County leadership.

Today's legislative agenda:
• The Senate will not hold floor session.
• House session begins at 1:30pm. Expect significant time in caucus prior to floor voting, which is expected to include the e-bike incentive.

Rather than publish separate posts by week as per usual, I'm creating a one-stop shop for tracking legislative actions now through adjournment sine die.
