Remembering when Baroness Nicky Morgan, Chair of the Commission on Covid Commemoration, visited us at the wall, early on in our journey to #MakeTheWallPermanent. ♥️ #ThrowbackThursday

Two years ago, a volunteer in reflective mood. We've come so far since then on our journey to #MakeTheWallPermanent. Becoming a registered charity has been a huge step. ❤️

It is very powerful, especially the first time you see it. And its position across from the seat of power is a reminder to whichever government is in power that their actions - and inactions - can have devastating consequences. ❤️ #MakeTheWallPermanent

THE NATIONAL COVID MEMORIAL WALL
"This wall is an anchor, a lodestone for the shock and horror, the anguish and anger of so many hundreds of thousands of us, bereaved and bereft by covid.
Somehow, this simple wall of hearts captures and holds the enormity of our loss. All those beautiful souls. The wall is all we have left."

An aerial shot of the river Thames from somewhere over Westminster Bridge. Almost the entire length of the memorial wall can be seen. In the foreground is some text: the Netflix logo and a few characters of the title, "The Diplomat".

The beginning of the memorial wall at the foot of Westminster Bridge at night. One of the characters is smiling as she stands in front of the red painted hearts of the wall. Lights are strung along the top of the wall.

Some of the volunteers are watching the @netflix.com series 'The Diplomat'. It's amazing to see this beautiful memorial to our beloved dead becoming an accepted and permanent part of the London landscape. ❤️

A page from UK Parliament Hansard. The heading says: "House of Commons, Covid-19 Inquiry, Volume 760: debated on Thursday 16 January 2025."
The quoted text reads: Dr Scott Arthur (Edinburgh South West) (Lab) "I pass the national covid memorial wall every day on my way to this place. It and the inquiry are a reminder of what happens when Government gets things wrong."

Seeing discussion of the memorial wall recorded in Hansard is important. Our covid dead should not be forgotten. ❤️

At the end of the day, this is the right thing to do! The memorial wall would go a long way to ensure those lost are remembered forever.

The memorial wall is perhaps especially important to those who have no other grave or marker for their lost loved one. Another reason the volunteers are keeping up the fight to #MakeTheWallPermanent.

Why are those lost to COVID not formally memorialised? How politics shapes what we remember Hundreds of thousands of red hearts adorn a wall directly opposite parliament, yet successive prime ministers have nothing to say about officially marking the lives lost in the pandemic.

Wonderful article by @honigsbaum.bsky.social on why the national covid memorial wall is so important. ♥️

Another 280 covid19 deaths reported in the last 7 days in the UK. 💔❤️

We must not let them be a statistic.
We must not let them be forgotten.

My husband's red painted heart in the covid memorial wall, with a red carnation laid beneath it

A beautiful day at the National Covid Memorial Wall, where the volunteers organised an event to mark this first official Day Of Reflection. After the formalities, I took a moment to lay a flower for my darling husband. ♥️ #MakeTheWallPermanent
