Honoured to speak at the #Mandela20 event in London to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s legacy, including as @gavi.org’s inaugural Board Chair. Mandela taught us to fight injustice and that lesson prevails in Gavi’s mission to fight inequity and ensure children in lower-income access life-saving vaccines.

Today, IDS attended the Mandela+20 event where Serah Makka, Africa Executive Director at ONE said, “Let us be gardeners of change, let's plant the seeds that will grow and bring change in future. History will not ask us what we changed, but it'll judge us on what we dared to change.”

Today is 20 years since Nelson Mandela’s speech in Trafalgar Square and his challenge to #MakePovertyHistory - “not as an act of charity but as an act of justice.”

We’ve been at events marking the anniversary and reflecting on how we're responding to the call to leave no-one behind.

“I've pledged to be part of a great generation that will end extreme poverty.” My only hesitation being: hasn’t my generation already dropped the ball?! #Mandela20 act.one.org/cms/thanks/l...

Dr Arumna Oteh,Chair of the Royal African Society, reminds us at the #Mandela20 High Level Event that despite progress towards making poverty history, 800 million people still go to bed hungry every day and urges us all in the spirit of Madiba, to do more.
