I honestly don’t get the joke he’s trying to make? Can someone explain it for the less brutal thinking single straight white male in his fourties’ that was raised on the concept of #MannersMakethTheMan by Army officers during several wars as a lifelong dependent and service veteran? I don’t get it

The standard with which I was raised is for the gentleman to walk on the side where traffic passes, as a shield for his companion; but with the side opposite here being a sheer drop to the river, which is the more dangerous?
