Land-based aircraft on Saipan were largely destroyed on the 11-14th of June 1944. On the 19-20th, the Battle of the Philippine Sea was fought, in which the #IJN lost 3 carriers, 550 aircraft, and nearly all that remained of their pilots and aircrew. Americans call this the #MarianasTurkeyshoot. 3/6
