Third Avenue El: Marjory Collins, apparently perched in a precarious position, made this image of the Third Avenue Elevated Railway as a local train left the Ninth Street station in Manhattan in 1942. The train is on the right track; the upper track on the left is clear. Buildings line the street below on both sides of the frame. Signal lights sit between the tracks in the center of the image. Service on the El in Manhattan ended in the 1950s.
