Market Basket to close most of its stores at noon — 11:51 a.m.
By Dana Gerber, Globe Staff
In the southern United States, there is a well-known gauge of a hurricane’s damage known as the “Waffle House Index” — if a location of the breakfast chain is open and serving a full menu, the neighborhood couldn’t have fared that poorly. In New England, the strength of a nor’easter may best be measured by the Market Basket Index — and an announcement from the Tewksbury-based chain indicates we’re in for a doozy.
“Due to the severe weather today, and for the safety of our associates and customers, the majority of Market Basket stores will be closing at 12 PM noon today, Feb 23, 2026,” Market Basket said. Thirteen stores, none in Massachusetts, will remain open, according to the notice. Those stores are located in New Hampshire (Claremont, Concord, Milford, North Conway, Plymouth, Swanzey, Tilton, and Warner) and Maine (Biddeford, Westbrook, and Topsham).
Oh my: #MarketBasket is closing today.
