This has nothing to do with XB-26s, but is a pretty cool shot of a B-26 in training or service.
Airframes are replaceable, people aren't.

The Martin XB-48 benefitted from the experiments on the '26.
A jet bomber from the era of not really knowing how to build a jet bomber.
The tandem gear would be seen on the B-51, B-47, B-52, U-2, and Hawker Siddeley Harrier, and I'm sure another dozen aircraft.

XB-26 in silver, with red and white tail stripes, and a wicked short wing that would later be lengthened. Cheek guns would later be installed, as well as twin .50-cals in the top turret and tail. The prop spinners would be deleted, and additional air intakes installed on the cowlings.
Not sure when she got the name "Marauder"...
She deserved a prettier name, before they loaded her up with bumps and guns.

I'll let others give you the history of the Martin B-26, I just thought on #MartinMonday you might want to see how pretty, and ugly, the XB-26 was.
I think this was around 1940, in competition with what would become the North American B-25.

Only two prototypes of the XB-48 were built.
It lost in competition with Boeing’s XB-47.

A Martin Marauder on odd looking landing gear.
Maybe the most interesting thing about the XB-48 was its bicycle landing gear.
This arrangement was tested on the XB-26H, the “Middle River Stump Jumper”.
Note external reinforcement on fuselage skin.

The ‘Island-Hopping Campaign’ wasn’t so much about taking territory from the Japanese, as it was about taking strategically important advanced bases for the naval campaign (mostly).

Editor’s note: While attributed to the Admiral, Yamamato may NOT have said this.
The first solid attribution of this quote is in the movie ‘Tora! Tora! Tora!’.
