On this day in 1935, Chapter 1 of the 12 episode Mascot Pictures serial, The Phantom Empire, started playing in theaters. Staring Gene Autry, it is considered to be the first science-fiction Western. #30sSciFi #MascotPictures

It was an opening logo from a famous film serial- the logo was a bit jarring when I watched the complete serial on the old AMC cable network eons ago:
