🔊The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has brought its first ever #McMafia Order vs 85 luxury London properties worth over £81m. It’s great to see the CPS using #UnexplainedWealthOrders which require Su Jiangbo- the owner of the properties according to the media - to explain the origin of his wealth.
🔍 In a welcome development in this major #McMafia order case, the High Court is hearing an #OpenJustice challenge today to the anonymisation of the woman subject to the National Crime Agency’s latest #UnexplainedWealthOrder - worth £5.8 million – as well as the law firms & property agents involved
👏 This shows a clear uptick in #McMafia orders as revealed in the govt’s annual report, with 5 new UWOs in 2024/25 after several years of 0 cases. This is welcome evidence that enforcement agencies are becoming more confident using UWOs – no doubt helped by the new costs protection brought in 2022.
💰 Major new #McMafia order case revealed as the National Crime Agency fends off a challenge to an Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO) targeting 2 properties worth £5m and £800k in cash. The investigative tool was used against an anonymised woman connected to a $2bn money laundering scandal in Singapore.

#McMafia finished an hour ago but still unavailable on #iPlayer. I was 20 minutes into the 'watch from the beginning' when it crashed because I tried to rewind it by 30 seconds. I think they're still running it on a BBC micro and the plug has fallen out.
