With the #festive season fast approaching, I can't help but wonder that #Trump's announced trade #tariffs for the #eurozone are like a #KrampusSchlapp when we think of #Germany's (badly-behaved) long-running neo- #mercantilist #trade model (humongous CA-surplus).
re: #France -- #German neo- #mercantilist economic policy is counting on foreign countries regularly buying #German goods on #credit to the tune of €250bn. If this succeeds, German state can easily limit its debt. But:

#France bashing is back (powered by #austerity hawks) in order to distract from the fact that #Germany and #China are pursuing an almost identical neo- #mercantilist approach. PS: Not a single #German #car is in the #Chinese Top10 anymore.
#Germany is being overcome by #China with a supercharged version of the same #mercantilist approach. On top of that, Trump 2.0. means a powerful backlash against #Berlin's outdated economic policy. Namely, US will no longer play the role of absorber of global surpluses.
#Trump looks like a #Mercantilist. They view trade as a means of supporting domestic production and employment, and prefer to spur exports rather than imports. They do not like cheap imports at all, even though they can lower local business input costs. State capitalism? Cronyism?
