Sigurd is captain of a sailing vessel and doesn't think much of the creatures except that he needs to keep his sailors safe. He's never seen one up close until he meets Deirdre. Tweet 2: Deirdre was born underwater in a large secluded lake and doesn't know she can walk on land. She longs to venture out into the world but knows it's too dangerous. She bides her time singing the songs of her people when the stars come out at night. Tweet 3: Contrary to fishermen lore, the siren song is not a trap to lure men in, but a song of sorrow for their murdered people. Arvis can understand the songs and longs to sing with his people, but he's careful not to reveal himself. Until he gets caught in the nets on Sigurd's vessel.
