The Cat Carol (the official video) The Cat Carol is a Christmas song written by myself, and performed here by the wonderful Meryn Cadell. It features other talented artists such as Ken Myhr (the guitarist from Cowboy Junkies and Jane Siberry), Erica Buss singing some of the gorgeous harmonies, and Tyler Stewart (from the ever-loving' Barenaked Ladies). I'm in there too, doing some of the ooooooo's. I wrote the song one snowy night in December, after hearing a cat meow to get into a farmhouse. I was renovating a client's attic, and I could hear her all the way up on the third floor. (Don't worry, I did let her in!) After recording a bare-bones version myself, my friend Meryn and I booked a studio and had some of our exceptionally talented friends help us record this version. The first year it was released, (on a self-published cassette tape!) it was the most requested song on Toronto's Q107 rock radio for the month of December. Since then it has received regular airplay across the country during the holiday season, in fact, it was the number one requested Christmas song on CBC radio for many years in a row! This year is the 20th anniversary of the song, so I wanted to get a video together and post it up... finally! The illustrations were drawn by my partner Nitrozac, based on her original drawing for the cassette tape cover!
