Now threading these... [from a couple weeks ago] Second paper acceptance of the year to #wundergrad Amelie L'Etoile-Goga! Her lovely quantification of #Mesodinium grazing preferences is coming out soon in The Journal of Phycology.
Help! We're struggling to choose between these two images of #Mesodinium #karmachamaeleon and its cryptophyte prey, one more "documentary" and one more "action shot," as cover image submissions (to a society journal). If you were an editor, which one would more likely catch your eye? #protistsonsky

#Mesodinium rubrum not caring what we feed them #figaday 3.233/n #year3
We've got a new paper out! Our team shows that #Mesodinium rubrum can (temporarily) make a living on blue-green prey, something that surprised my science-big-brother Matt Johnson so much that he made me run the central experiment 5 times. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Just such a striking contrast in how much #Mesodinium will do for itself when it comes to passing on its own genes compared to maintaining its own metabolism. #figaday 3.121/n #year3
Back on the #Mesodinium train #figaday 3.095/n #year3
Spending this week flipping back and forth between #Mesodinium and #mycorrhizae. #figaday 3.085/n #year3
Off to do more #Mesodinium things. Like ask Matt for more fixed samples so I can image cells that are hopefully not in the process of exploding. #figaday 3.044/n #year3
Last night in Les Diablerets, so here's a devilish view of #Mesodinium in keeping with the theme. #figaday 3.030/n #year3
Just sooooo smitten with all the detail we can see in these expanded #Mesodinium cells (shown here alongside their prey). Thank you @Dey_Gautam for the invitation to be here @embl, and @F_Mikus for spending hours teaching me these past two weeks. #figaday 3.006/n #year3
Working on some data processing and just continually stunned about how quickly #Mesodinium grab back their preferred plastids. #figaday 2.360/n #year2
Please share widely! Matt Johnson (WHOI) is recruiting a postdoc to work on our newly #NSFfunded grant exploring the subcellular mechanisms of #kleptoplasty in #Mesodinium. Please join us! #unicornjob🦄 careers-whoi.icims.com/jobs/2305/po...
So cool to be able to see some prey selectivity play out for a #Mesodinium species! #figaday 2.290/n #year2
Now at last, we were living the dream! Just look at these crazy little #Mesodinium cells, so chock full of the wrong types of plastids! #figaday 2.255/n #year2
These images are just *terrible* but I'm pleased that after 7 years I finally know what the filters on my fluorescence compound scope do! Left: #Mesodinium with the "right" plastids (yellow/orange) and Right: chock full of the "wrong" kind (red). #figaday 2.142/n #year2
Today feels like a good day for #Mesodinium data for some reason....! #figaday 2.099/n #year2
