Born in Detroit teaming with Purple Rose Theatre Company for new UM/OSU merch The storied Michigan-Ohio rivalry is making its way to the local stage, and coming together to benefit a gem of the local community. Local apparel line Born in Detroit is teaming with Jeff Daniels' Purple Rose Theatre Company for a line of merchandise tied to the Chelsea theater's new production, "My Mother and the Michigan/Ohio War." For the new play, which launches Thursday, Born in Detroit is selling exclusive University of Michigan and Ohio State University hats. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Purple Rose, which Daniels founded in his hometown in 1991. "My Mother and the Michigan/Ohio War" is a comedy about a recently widowed wife and mother who calls on her children, a daughter who attended UM and a son who attended OSU, to realize her late husband's vision of a reenactment of the Michigan-Ohio War of 1835-1836. The show, which is directed by Susan Angelo, runs through May 25. Tickets are on sale now via the Purple Rose box office and its website. Born in Detroit was launched in 2020 by two sets of brothers — Anthony and Michael Tomey and George and Alex Bourkoulas — and their friend, Michael Shumaker. The team also owns 8 Mile Vodka. agraham@detroitnews.com This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Born in Detroit teaming with Purple Rose Theatre Company for new UM/OSU merch
