Detection of an asymmetry in the envelope of the carbon Mira R Fornacis using VLTI/MIDI | Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A)Mendeley Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A) is an international journal which publishes papers on all aspects of astronomy and astrophysics

Just found this out about a #MiraVariable star, specifically R Fornacis, tonight.

The odds still don't look good for actual M-class planets orbiting Mira itself, mind you...just a little less slim than they used to be. #StarTrek #trivia

Chandra X-ray Observatory image of Mira (Omicron Ceti), a pulsating red giant star and its white dwarf companion. The image shows distinct x-ray emissions from both stars, highlighting the interaction within this binary system. The red giant Mira A is shown strongly flaring at x-ray energies, separate from the x-ray emission of its companion's accretion disk (Mira B).
