A year in the life of #GreenFarm next to our #Monkwood nature reserve π³βοΈπβοΈ
Many thanks to #volunteer Chris Dobbs who manages our timelapse camera and to players of the #NationalLottery for making this project possible through #TheNationalLotteryHeritageFund ππ
A group of people sitting down alongside a path in a wintery woodland - they're dressed in waterproof clothing and it's obviously been raining.
It's been raining? βπ
Our hardy volunteers don't let a bit of sogginess stop them from getting stuck in! Here's some of our roving and #Monkwood #volunteers taking a break from coppicing a ride & creating lots of opportunities for flowers & insects in spring πΈππ¦
THANK YOU to all our volunteers ππ
Two people in the distance amongst an area of woodland that's been recently coppiced - there's a cleared area in the middle of the photo with piled up hazel poles to the right. There are trees surrounding them and a grass path on the righthand side. It's a beautifully sunny winters day.
A big thank you to our #volunteers for a great coppicing job alongside one of the paths at #Monkwood, letting in the light to the woodland floor π±πΌπΈππ¦π
The hazel that was cut will be used by our #WilderWorcestershire team for a project they're doing in a community garden π
We appear to be high up against a tree trunk - there's a large, leafless branch over our heads and the shadow of this and surrounding trees are stretching out into the field below and then off into the distance - the landscape of Green Farm. it's a sunny wintery day.
What's next for #GreenFarm? π€

We're so proud of everyone who's helped us start the restoration of #GreenFarm, next to #Monkwood nature reserve. The impact for wildlife will be huge - new habitat, new corridors and plenty of space to expand π³πΌπ¦ππ¦πππ

Our project to restore land at #GreenFarm next to #Monkwood nature reserve has involved planting 5271 trees (there's natural regeneration happening too) & 230m of hedge as well as laying 350m of hedge. We're also restoring wood pasture, as Dom explains...

Our trainee Sophie spotted this ruddy darter at #Monkwood nature reserve.
Theyβre similar to common darters but, apart from this blood-red colour seen in males, the easiest way to tell them apart is that ruddy darters have all black legs whilst common darters have a yellow stripe down theirs.
Thank you everyone who helped make possible the purchase & restoration of land at #GreenFarm, next to #Monkwood π
This has been a wonderful project engaging 700+ members of the local community & restoring woodland, wood pasture, meadows & orchards π³ππ¦π¦πΌ www.worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/news/celebra...
Phew! On the hottest day of the year so far, our fabulous conservation trainees removed a rickety stile at #PoundGreenCommon, installed a new kissing gate and then went to collect a new picnic table for #Monkwood on their way back.
Well done trainees - we treated them to ice-creams! ππ¦ π
It's been six years since we first set eyes on #GreenFarm, but the wildlife restoration efforts there are now well underway.
In our latest #Monkwood Musings blog, our reserves officer Dom takes a look back at the successful work that has taken place π
