I used #BasinCreek #Cutoff to turn around, leaving the #SnakeRiver #Headwaters for Heart Lake Trail. It's mostly a stock trail through the woods, but the #Cutoff goes through some open country, views of #MountSheridan.

Mount Sheridan Seen from the shores of Heart Lake. We hiked up the previous day. Sheridan was on the rim of the Yellowstone caldera 650,000 years ago.

#MountSheridan from #HeartLake. Like #MountWashburn, about 30 miles away, it was once part of the rim of the #Yellowstone #caldera. There's a steep trail to the summit, well worth the effort.

This is about a fourth of the way up the trail to #MountSheridan. Though it looks like a heart, #HeartLake is named for Hart Hunney, a regional hunter in 1840s.

Bill #Schneider rates the trail "H" for . . . "hard" (beyond his 1-5 scale).
