There are about 10 such masks, but none remains in the Democratic Republic of #Congo: 1.5 m tall & about 10 kg heavy - that is the truly monumental #Kakuungu dance mask.

Part 6 of @thecontinent.org 's #MuseumOfStolenHistory tells us about the largest rough diamond ever found in Africa: the mighty #CullinanDiamond, which - discovered in 1905 - now lives on in several pieces, most of them embedded in: Britain's Crown Jewels.

Part 5 of @thecontinent.org's #MuseumOfStolenHistory is dedicated to #Okukor, the rooster that stood in a dining hall at Cambridge University for over 114 years before it returned to #Nigeria in 2021, where it was looted from #Benin in 1897.

And in Part IV of @thecontinent.org's #MuseumOfStolenHistory we meet: #Ghost and #Darkness, the two lions who became (in)famous as "The Man-eaters of #Tsavo" among late 19th century railway construction workers in today's Kenya (and in a 1996 Hollywood movie).
