A small sailing craft called 'Artful Owl' sits upright on the beach where the tide has left it. The boats tall mast is partially reflected on the wet sand. Dippers dot the sand searching for food and on rocks in the sea cormorants stand enjoying the weak sunshine, one with it's wings outspread. In the distance the rocky Inner Farne Islands are silhouetted against a pastel sky. The subdued colours enhance the calm feeling of the scene

Taken from the stern of a fast moving boat the propellors throw water into a 'X' shaped pattern. In the distance the port of Lerwick hugs the side of Bressay Sound. Low white and grey, fluffy clouds shroud the horizon while above the boat the sky is largely blue.

Black and White. Looking through the remnants of the ancient Caledonian Forest the Scots Pine and Silver Birch grow all the way down to the sea loch shore. On the other side of the loch the barren rock slopes of Beinn Alligin rise to a sky with scattered, wispy high clouds.

#MyHappyPlaces are the places where I fell connected to the Earth and free of worries. They are places with meaning to me, places where I feel at home, places that are a balm to my soul.

Black and White. Lochan na h-Achlaise and Clach Leathad - December 2005. The waters of the lochan are frozen and the ice is covered with snow. In the mid distance a series of small islands have bare branched silver birch growing on them. In the distance the cloud clad peak of Clach Leathad stands out against an otherwise clear sky.
