I had a great time hearing really amazing work at #NACBS2025 in Montreal, especially regarding Balck British history.

There’s nothing more academically invigorating than leaving a conference full of excitement for future work. 🤓

I had a feeling I was being watched over last night at dinner here in Montréal 😳. However it didn’t impact too much on lovey inter generational chat with @racheljcollett.bsky.social & @alfiesteer.bsky.social. Nice way to end #nacbs2025.

Just back from a very successful meeting of @thenacbs.bsky.social in Montreal (the biggest yet, I think) -- a huge thanks to Brian Lewis, Katherine Grenier, and all the organizers and presenters. Loads of good work and camaraderie - and many notes to think over in coming days. #nacbs2025

Important conversation happening right now at #nacbs2025 about effective ways to meet the current challenges & crises facing History as a discipline in HE. How we need to act now to ensure we can continue to engage in #doinghistory because #historymatters. @royalhistsoc.org

This was such a great panel organised by Estella Chen @ox.ac.uk & one of great joys of #nacbs2025 is having opportunity to jump out of your own subject area & century (for me to travel back to early modern England) & learn new & fascinating things.

Samuel Johnson ‘predicts a riot’. Great paper by Richard Gorrie at #nacbs2025 panel on publicity, authority & spectacles of justice & disorder. His paper looked at theatre riots in 18th Century London. Great stuff.

Fantastic paper & robust challenge to chivalry theory in criminal justice by Gillian Gluck Smith of @stanford.edu here at #nacbs2025. Clear demonstration that women accused of being petty traitors in early modern England were more harshly punished with pain & suffering inflicted on female bodies. 👏

The ‘silver thread’: Hazel Hunkins-Hallinan (1890–1982), the Six Point Group, and new understandings of intergenerational female activism in England, 1960s to 1980 Focussing on the life-long activism of former suffragette and feminist Hazel Hunkins-Hallinan this article presents an innovative re-appraisal of histories of the women’s movement in England during...

I always relish opportunities to speak about the amazing life-long feminist activist HHH or H3 as her friends called her, so great to do so at #nacbs2025 on #1970sWomen roundtable yesterday & if your interest is piqued you can read all about her in this @womenshistoryrev.bsky.social OA article 😊.

Missing the last day of “Queer British History” panels today but leaving #NACBS2025 with lots to think about and weird pictures after spending a day doing Montreal the @tomhulme.bsky.social way. Au revoir, montreal!

1/3 Just wrapped #nacbs2025 in Montréal and, while I have to head home early, I had a fantastic time presenting with @melissa-glass.bsky.social and @ma-jones.bsky.social. Big thanks to @brodiewaddell.bsky.social and everyone who attended for such a smart, generous session.

Have heard so many great papers so far at #nacbs2025 & esp by ECR researchers, future of historical research is robust. But danger lies in structural impositions risking future of humanities & social sciences courses in UK HE & elsewhere. Be part of the conversation tomorrow with @royalhistsoc.org.

Reflections on history pedagogies in this panel have made me think about the bounds of play/re-acting and historical accuracy and perspectives - very interesting #nacbs2025

About to hear a real powerhouse roundtable about women's activism in the 1970s here at #nacbs2025 Montreal. I'm thinking and hearing about... actual History all the time? It's a real treat after the emergencies and alarums of UK HE. 👍
