In this second video, the gentle rapidity of said flow picked up like a train leaving a station (so not Metrolinx).
This piece uses real-time sensors to react to wind & temperature data, but you can also shine a light at it to induce change. Control and none. (2/2)

Ooh, ooh! I know this one! This time at #NuitBlancheTO, we first saw Ivan Rys’ 𝘓𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘥 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘸 at Lumière: The Art of Light this past spring in Trillium Park.
In this first video, I was getting a Star Wars vibe until someone triggered a pattern change to a sunburst ripple. (1/2)

⬆️ From #NuitBlancheTO: “Over the course of 12-hour endurance performance, Cassils uses their body, Morse code and a high-powered beam of light to send a list of words (deemed suspect by US federal agencies) into the sky, shining light on the ubiquitous forces of censorship.” (2/2)

This is 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 by Cassils. Sure, I joked that this is what my Mom will sound like after her knee replacement, but I loved both the Morse code and the censorship premise. And it looks steam-punk spectacular. (1/2)

One of many pieces of artwork on the walls. Something about "ENTROPY" here captured my brain. (6/7)

I had a crack at typing on this electric typewriter. Took me a moment to find the space key. When I was in high school, I went straight from a manual typewriter to an Apple computer, so an electric is even foreign to me. (4/7)

This is a miniature bookshelf, chair & kitty in a massive, wall-sized regular bookshelf. I could have spent an hour just examining everything in that bookshelf—so many cool & funky objects, both expected and unexpected. (3/7)

Nuit Blanche at the MAC! by Various Artists was project #102 at Nuit Blanche Toronto 2025.
Knitting Echoes by Ailin Dong was project #116 at Nuit Blanche Toronto 2025.
And because I saw a lot of performance art, I put it in its own category!

Another Nuit Blanche has passed in the city of Toronto, and art could be found through several different regions of the city. I visited four of them. This thread will feature some of my highlights of each region in the 2025 edition of the event.

Dissolving Boundaries at #NBTO25.
Tower of Babel by Shellie Zhang, a video installation scrolling the words to "Yesterday Once More" by the Carpenters in 20 languages.
the sound of lions in Chinatown (east gate) by Annie Wong and Hannia Cheng. Two layers of fabric cut with slits so people can pass through hang from a scaffold across a city street at night. The closer layer is printed with a streetscape of presumably the same street decades ago.
For the Youth by Alexis Nanibush-Pamajewong. A crowd walks towards a glowing art installation in a building courtyard.
Dissolving Boundaries by OOOPStudio. A video projection on silos on the edge of lake Ontario, with the lake in the foreground and a full moon above. The projection is a dancer in a rippling outfit that mirrors the waves.
We spent ~4 hours at Nuit Blanche tonight, had a lovely time. My favorite was probably Dead Ringer, not pictured, which explored Toronto's place in film as other places. #NBTO25
