To put a bow on our #NESTop25, I’m sharing the complete list from @rollingstone.com along with @waggsthetarheel.bsky.social and my lists from now and back in 2019, to see how they changed… I’m surprised how consistent my list is, with #Tetris99 and #SuperMarioBros35 influencing changes on mine… #NES

Number 1 on my #NESTop25 is #TecmoSuperBowl. The first football game with all NFL teams & players. Madden has taken over but TSB is the GOAT imo. Still love firing up the #NES & playing this game, old rosters & all. Might not have a classic #Nintendo character, but Bo Jackson is a #VideoGames legend

At the top of my #NESTop25 is the reigning champion, #PunchOut!! This is a puzzle game disguised as a sports game, and I love it. The fun characters, the simple and effective control, the heartwarming story of a small boxer rising up through the ranks… what’s not to like?! #Nintendo #VideoGames #NES

Number 2 on my #NESTop25 is #Contra. It wasn’t until I was older that I learned the Konami code wasn’t called the Contra code. Couch co-op at its finest. Didn’t own this one until I was older, had to play at friend’s houses. Maybe that why I love it so much. #NES #Nintendo #VideoGames

1st runner up in my #NESTop25 features the G.O.A.T of #VideoGames and the game that everyone had, it’s the original #SuperMarioBros. I’ve always enjoyed this game, but my interest of it skyrocketed when #SuperMarioBros released for a limited time 5 years ago ( #Nintendo, please bring it back)! #NES

5 2 1 1

Number 3 on my #NESTop25 is #SuperMarioBros. The game that started it all. I’m guessing nobody at #Nintendo back then thought they just created the most legendary video game character of all time. This #NES #VideoGames withstands the test of time. I still play this game to this day.

The bronze medal of my #NESTop25 actually came in a gold cartridge. #TheLegendOfZelda created a legacy and a standard for adventure games. I didn’t finish this until I was an adult, but the fact I went back and played should say something. #Link, #Zelda, and #Ganon are iconic. #Nintendo #VideoGames

Before we unveil the top 3 games on the #NESTop25, we watned to share some honorable mentions that didn’t make the lists.

1st, I screwed up and thought I could only have one #MegaMan game on the list. The sequel would be top 15 without question… the blue bomber deserves more love than I gave…

Number 4 on my #NESTop25 is #MegaMan2. This & MM3 are like 1A & 1B in the series to me. I went with MM2 as the highest rated due to the difficulty. Levels & bosses were still challenging, but the game was beatable. In an era of #Nintendo hard games, an #NES #VideoGames I could progress on was great.

Number 4 on my #NESTop25 blew everyone’s mind in 90’s. #SuperMarioBros3 being feature in the “Wizard” film was a big deal… and for good reason. A vast improvement in graphic and features from the #SuperMarioBros series, it’s hard not to love… somehow, still hard too. #Videogames #Nintendo #Mario

Number 5 on my #NESTop25 is #MegaMan3. The introduction of Rush as a “playable” character and Proto Man. Difficult ramped back up in this one, but the 2nd controller glitch helped offset that some. #NES classic series, #Nintendo classic character, my favorite #VideoGames series of all time.

Number 5 on my #NESTop25 is the most underrated #NES #videogame, #Startropics. This game had a fun story, awesome gameplay, lots of challenge, some fun graphics, loads of content, and a map that had to be in water for a secret code! I’m still sad #Nintendo hasn’t done more with this IP…

3 2 2 1

Number 6 on my #NESTop25 is #PUNCH-OUT!! Should it be in my top 5? Sure, it’s that good. The only knock on this #NES classic is the difficulty. I could never master this one. The SNES one on the other hand… but we aren’t talking SNES right now. Fighting Mike Tyson = #Nintendo impossible #VideoGames

The Blue Bomber FINALLY shows up on my #NESTop25 at number 6 (honestly should have shown up sooner, too). This is peak #MegaMan in my view. This is when sliding first showed up along with Proto Man, adding to an already fun series. Classic gameplay + fun characters = winning! #VideoGames #Nintendo

3 3 1 1

Number 7 on my #NESTop25 is #Kirby’sAdventure. The pink superstar is one of the best #Nintendo series of all time. This game took the GB model and pumped it full of new content. If I fire up the #NES at this stage of life, this one is on the short list. “Easy” #VideoGames have their place too!

1 1 1 1

Lucky number 7 on my #NESTop25 is #Metroid. This game raised a high bar for #NES and all #videogames action plaformers. Ton of content, challenge, and even graphics considering this is from the 1980’s. The story was just the beginning of a multi decade fascination with Metroids and Samus! #Nintendo

5 4 1 1

Number 8 on my #NESTop25 is #SuperMarioBros3. After SMB2, this #NES classic went back to the original style and introduced multiple new items/ideas. I had lots of fun with this one, but the difficulty of the last world frustrated me as a kid (& as an adult, lol). #Nintendo #VideoGames classic!

2 1 1 1

Just because a game is easier doesn’t mean it’s not fun. Number 8 on my #NESTop25 is a great example of that. #KirbysAdventure is unique, cute, and fun! After the Game Boy original, this was a huge upgrade that was fun to work through and a spark in a very fun series! #Nintendo #VideoGames #Kirby

5 3 2 1

Number 9 on my #NESTop25 is #DoubleDragonIITheRevenge. One of my favorite co-op games of the #NES generation. Went through a faze in high school that a great friend (Grutt) and I would head to my house after school to beat this game before doing anything else. Love this #Nintendo #VideoGames

2 1 1 1

The doctor is in at number 9 on my #NESTop25. #DrMario is a revolutionary puzzle game with fun music and new mechanic. The multiplayer mode is lots of fun and can be very competitive! I was never great, but have enjoyed the game through the year with other peeps! #Mario #VideoGames #Nintendo

3 3 1 1

Number 10 on my #NESTop25 is #MicroMachines. I played this game with my older cousins at a family gathering and fell in love. I finally found the game at Walmart and managed to score a copy. The tabletop racing is unique and fun to this day. #NES #Nintendo #VideoGames

2 2 1 1

Number 10 of my #NESTop25 goes to #Excitebike. I loved being able to build courses and trying to be the time records… I hated over heating and the sound that came with it… still, fun game with find memories, just wish more would have happened with the series. #Nintendo #VideoGames #NES

Another break from the #NESTop25 to share some top NES memories.

Somehow, I remember the first video game I ever rented was Double Dribble… and though I would later appreciate its greatness later, I remember being so excited to play and having fun learning… I miss game rentals….

1 1 2 0

Number 11 on my #NESTop25 is #MegaMan4. This is the most underrated in the series, imo. The Toad Man stage sticks in my memory. The first stage I played when I rented for the first time. Maybe I’ve given too much MM love but his run on the #NES is fond to me. #Nintendo #VideoGames

1 1 1 1

Clearing out the bottom 15 of my #NESTop25 at number 11 is #Tetris. Sure, this game really picked up steam with the Game Boy, but gotta show love to the original. I play Tetris 99 most nights for a quick moment of fun and challenge, showing the lasting impact of this one! #NES #VideoGames #Nintendo

5 3 1 1

Number 12 on my #NESTop25 is #TheGuardianLegend. You explored a map looking for portals that took you to flying levels. The mashup kept me hooked and pushing forward. I’d love to play this one again. #NES #Nintendo #VideoGames

1 1 1 1

I mentioned Disney had a slew of great #NES TV syndication games earlier in my #NESTop25, and at number 12, #Ducktales is the cream of the crop. This Capcom game was initially a surprise as how great it was, but when the game had some Mega Man influence, it makes sense. #VideoGames #Nintendo

4 3 1 1

Number 13 on my #NESTop25 is #MendelPalace. I know, not your typical #Nintendo #VideoGames list! This is another co-op that I played a ton with my sister growing up. You used floor tiles to shove enemies into the walls to eliminate them. This is an #NES gem for me. Lots of memories playing this one!

I know Chris had the original on his #NESTop25, but I have #TecmoSuperBowl at number 13 on mine. Twice as many play options than the original, real teams/players, multiple season play, and still with the original #NES #Tecmo charm? Count me in! #Nintendo #VideoGames

3 3 1 1

Number 14 on my #NESTop25 is #PipeDream. If you’ve never heard of it, I get it. This game was a co-op that I played a ton with my dad. You had to build a series of pipes to avoid spilling whatever liquid was traveling through the pipes. Endless hours of fun with my pops. #NES #Nintendo #VideoGames
