#ThrowbackThursday to June of 2016 when a storm knocked out power to the building and left our medical team in the dark, mid-surgery! They had to finish their procedures with the help of head lamps and flashlights. 🔦 #NHS150

Thanks to people like you, stories like Cora’s get the happy endings they deserve. Today, on our Day of Giving, your gifts will be matched, dollar for dollar, to help twice the animals in need. #NHS150
Help us write twice the happy endings: bit.ly/3Iy5QYk
Somewhere along the way, the scales tipped - literally. She gained a pound. And then another. Little by little, the light returned to her eyes and before we knew it, Cora was ready for her forever home. Now, she’s healthy and will only know kindness from here on out. #NHS150
We knew that even if she made it through the night, she would have a long road ahead of her. She needed the kind of TLC that only a loving foster home could provide. It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. She got worse - and she couldn’t afford to get worse. #NHS150
Cora came to us after being surrendered to an emergency vet clinic. Her condition was shocking - she was 20 pounds, anemic, lethargic, and cold. She checked every box that pointed to starvation, and she was barely hanging on. #NHS150
Stories like this are possible because of your help. Today, on our Day of Giving, your gifts will be matched, dollar for dollar. #NHS150
Make stories like Patcha’s possible here: bit.ly/3Iy5QYk
With stories like Patcha, it’s easy to focus on the negative - someone used him as a target. But take a look at the good: someone brought him to NHS, our team took wonderful care of him, and now he's in a home where he will be loved forever. #NHS150
Fortunately, Patcha found his way to NHS, where he was treated and learned to trust people. You can tell from a few of the first pictures that he wasn’t so sure about welcoming guests, but with a little time and patience he came around. #NHS150
Patcha came into the Nebraska Humane Society a little distrusting of people - and who could blame him? It appeared that somebody had shot him in the face with a pellet gun, and he had the wound to show it. #NHS150
This guy put on over 30 (!!!) pounds in foster care! We're happy to report he is in a forever home now, and that's because of YOUR support. #NHS150
Donate today to help pets like Buster, and your gift will go twice as far: bit.ly/3Iy5QYk
Buster benefited so much from our foster care program. After spending time in a foster home, his eyes showed a new glimmer, and he even started being a little naughty with all his new energy! We can only imagine what it felt like for him to finally be so full of life. #NHS150
Today is the Nebraska Humane Society's 150th birthday, and we are celebrating with a Day of Giving (also known as a D.O.G.)! 🎂 🎁 🎉
All your gifts today will be matched to help pets like Buster, who - as you can see - came into the shelter extremely emaciated. #NHS150
Anyone in line by 5 p.m. on Saturday will have the chance to adopt a pet. After all, how else would we celebrate?
And who knows? Maybe 150 more stories will get their start. #NHS150
We’d be remiss if we didn’t talk about what we’ve been counting down to. Thursday is our 150th birthday and our “Day of Giving.” Then on Saturday, we’re hosting our 150th birthday party! Heck, it’s even officially “Nebraska Humane Society Day” in Omaha! #NHS150
We want to thank everyone - staff, volunteers, adopters, supporters - who participated in this project. These are the stories that fill our cup, and we hope you got a little something out of it too. #NHS150
But this project displayed the best of our pet-loving community. These are people still honoring their friends from years ago, dedicating their lives to helping pets today and striving to make every day another step in the right direction for animal welfare. #NHS150
Today we made our lost "150 stories in 150 days" post. After 5 months, here's our biggest takeaway from this project: we see a lot of difficult scenes working in an animal shelter. All too often, the worst of humanity can show itself. It’s easy to let it eat away at you. #NHS150
"One night, as I quietly walked through the stray kennels, I came across a sweet female yellow Lab sitting silently in the back of her kennel. Her eyes were soft but sad."

"Taysia Blue was funny, bossy, and unforgettable. Every day she reminded me how many animals like her don’t get the chance she did. And that thought became a spark. In 2010, I started a rescue in her honor."

This Throwback Thursday is extra special. Why? Because it also happens to be Theresa's last day. Officially, she's a Systems Administrator in our IT department. Unofficially, she's been our own personal Jedi for over 30 years. #NHS150
