A Bananaquit (Coereba flaveola), known locally in Guadeloupe as the Sucrier or Sicrié, perched boldly on the rim of a clear glass ashtray atop a white-painted wooden outdoor table. The bird faces the camera, displaying its characteristic bright yellow breast and belly, jet-black crown and upperparts, and a slightly curved, pointed bill with a pinkish-red gape visible at the base. A thick white eyebrow stripe runs from the bill to behind the eye, though it appears partially visible from this frontal angle. Its dark, slender legs and clawed feet grip the smooth glass edge with ease. The Bananaquit is one of Guadeloupe’s most emblematic birds, a small and bold passerine (~10 cm) known for brazenly approaching outdoor café and restaurant tables in search of sugar and fruit scraps. This individual seems right at home — a classic Sicrié moment on the island.
