Christmas in KL I read that the biggest bookshop in all of South East Asia has recently - like four days ago - opened in Kuala Lumpur.

I visit the biggest bookshop in South East Asia, then because it's Christmas visit not one, not two, but three nice hotel bars and restaurants in KL. It might even have snowed at one point.

Chow Kit It’s time to leave Kluang.

I leave Kluang on the slow train (18 December), stop in Gemas to switch to the fast train, and spend four days in Chow Kit. Lots of wandering and food eating but less coffee than normal - no coffee shop for 15 minutes!

Finally, a train I hope all who celebrate had a merry Christmas: I didn’t quite have the Christmas I expected but more on that later.

I find a bed has become available on Malaysia's only sleeper train, so hurredly make my way to Kota Bharu then sleep most of the way down the line to Kluang. Features a minor encounter with law enforcement and hazardous food.

Side trip: Sungai Lembing It’s laundry time - that’s not very interesting, even if it takes place in Laundry Bar, but it’s not the sort of thing a place named like that might be in New Zealand.

In Kuantan for one last day, I find a wonderful cafe, then I take a bus trip through the jungle to an old mining town *Sungai Lembing) where I find hardly anything at all.

Staying on in Kuantan I wake up in my guesthouse in Kuantan, and realise I am absolutely not ready to leave.

After two nights in Kuantan, there's no way I'm ready to leave, so book another couple of nights to explore its café scene and to take a small side trip down river.

Singapore to JB Those who know me might be surprised that my local coffee shop is opening too late for it to provide my first coffee of the day, which is why I’ve been going to foodcourts.

I spend my last day in #Singapore visiting the Maxwell Food Centre and the Tiong Bahru housing development (and bakery) then head across the border to #JohorBahru, where I discover a couple of great cafés (more to come).
