In classic ADHD style, I finally sat down to find the 1 1/2 hours of music I need for a radio interview, recorded tomorrow. It's being broadcast during NZ Music Month, so it all needs to be by kiwi artists (by some reasonable definition, I guess).
I'd like to feature as much music as possible […]
FYI fellow HamilTronians;
* [DateMonthYear](datemonthyear.bandcamp.com/album/the-exodus-suite are playing at Nivara Lounge tonight.
* Also in live music, a rare sighting of the Mesoverse putting some on, with the [Crunch Kirikiriroa Hardcore]( […]
Happy 5th birthday to The Fluffy Slipper Lounge! This week's show features a new kiwi track, a couple of classics...plus the kiwi track that was the first to play in their first episode #TheFluffySlipperLounge #RadioSouthland #NZMM Here's the podcast - tinyurl.com/3cc8bj5c
Who are Brenny & The Bushwhackers and what is The Land of the Rolling R? Darren catches up with Brendon Fairbairn to find out

15. The Mutton Birds - Since I posted a Mutton Bird cover, it seems a shame not to share the OG as well. Obviously there are endless good song choices from them, they're one of the all-time Aotearoa greats, so I'm going with my personal favourite (which was their only single to hit #1!) #NZMM
14. Nadia Reid - Another one of our incredible alt-folk artists, Nadia Reid has been releasing consistently excellent music for a decade now, and her most recent album suggests that won't change any time soon. She's refined her sound and tried new things, without losing any heart or soul. #NZMM
13. Vorn - Called "New Zealand's best kept musical secret" and "Wellington's most underrated artist", Vorn's a giant weirdo who inexplicably keeps on going in the face of probably-terminal-but-who-knows-at-this-point cancer. Also, he used to host a great music quiz night. A+, would recommend. #NZMM
11. The Bats - I enjoyed listening to the Chills so much yesterday I thought I'd keep going down the Dunedin Sound rabbithole with another of my favourites from that time/space. Where would we be without Flying Nun? #NZMM
10. The Chills —I didn't properly appreciate the Dunedin Sound until I was in my 20s, but once it clicked, it really clicked. An endlessly rewarding scene that gave us so many great albums and influenced countless more, and The Chills were one of the greatest to come out of it. #NZMM
In The Fluffy Slipper Lounge this week you'll hear a good dose of NZ Music, Lyndal's 'Reel World', and a Mr T treat for Mother's Day #TheFluffySlipperLounge #RadioSouthland #NZMM Here's the podcast - tinyurl.com/mwnd5u87
My friend Phoebe just released a new music video and it's an absolute fuckin banger, happy NZ music month #nzmm #kikorangi youtu.be/MwHj6e3eTEY?...
9. Lake South (@lakesouth.bsky.social ) — Saved for today because there's a new single! Making 'topian electropop', Lake South is one of my absolute favourite bands. Lake's songwriting captures a particular kind of contemporary NZ experience in a way I don't think anyone else does. #NZMM
#nzmm go see this Ngā Ao E Rua - Two Worlds thespinoff.co.nz/pop-culture/...
8. Jen Cloher — Okay so they only recently moved to Aotearoa, but they're Māori (and my whanaunga, we both whakapapa to the same iwi) and this is an important song for today. The first time I heard this album, I just sat in my living room and cried for a bit. #NZMM
6. Kommi. Following their extremely charming/insightful/inspirational appearance in the Marlon documentary, I've had Kommi on repeat this week. Reo Māori hip-hop is a perfect pairing, and we need as much of it as possible. #NZMM
5. Reb Fountain. Dark, lyrical indie folk, the easy comparisons are Nick Cave and Patti Smith, although I think that actually undersells Reb a bit. Makes it easier to fit into a single Bluesky post, though. Every time I've seen Reb perform, she's been breathtaking.

In The Fluffy Slipper Lounge this episode TNN discuss ANZAC, Star Wars, adult pantomime, duck hunting and tip their hat to NZ Music Month #TheFluffySlipperLounge #RadioSouthland #NZMM Here's the podcast - tinyurl.com/4s22tsdk
Breaking the thread already to say that I'm also putting all the songs into a Youtube playlist as well. #NewZealandMusicMonth #NZMM
1. Anthonie Tonnon. If I've ever spoken to you about music, it'll be no surprise I'm starting with Tono. Synthy/guitary art pop, with sharp, funny, thoughtful lyrics. And, of course, he's one of our most prominent public transport advocates/historic elevator enthusiasts. #NZMM
It's Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa / New Zealand Music Month, and I've been feeling a bit disconnected from local music lately. So throughout May, I'm going to share one Kiwi artist per day that I love, in no particular order. #NZMM
