There is an expanse of river water. On the far shore a boat is parked. There are two children with backpacks standing on the dirt rise. In the background is an array of jungle plants.

The home of my cute ringed kingfisher is the #naporiver in the Ecuadorian Amazon. I loved it there so much. It sounds cliche, but it was a bit life-changing. #travel #ecuador #amazonriver

These Scarlet Macaws (3 total) showed up at the salt lick near the Napo River in the upper Amazon basin to get salt and minerals lacking in their diet. We also saw the Cobalt-winged parakeets, the Blue-throat piping Guan there as well. Sometimes there is a wider selection but you pays ya money...There are dozens of these that have been IDed in that region. The birds sit in the trees and looked for predators while we sat very quietly below for about 2 ours. You can see the saltwater between the pair of the 3some. I picked up 3 singlets that really capture the birds and the site, one shown here. The Napo River is a wide shallow very muddy tributary of the Amazon.

Cobalt-winged Parakeets as they burst from the site of the salt water spring in the upper Amazon basin near the Napo river. Movie at next post. There are multiple sites like this one that birds flock to to get needed salts and minerals. We sat for several hours before we saw these fellows, scarlet Maccaws and a Blue-throated Piping Guan.Yep he is on my life list, yours? All for later posting.

A single Cobalt-winged Parakeet, surveying the salt lick and salt water spring site before he will head down to drink. See the next photo and the movies posted in a few minutes.

Cobalt-winged parakeet. This image was at the limits of camera 3200 ISO and lens and cropped substantially and up ressed. No one got close enough to give me a better shot.

Young man with slicked, well-styled hair is sitting on the bow of a small boat navigating the Napo River in Ecuador south of the city of Coca. He's wearing a t-shirt and jeans. He is posted in profile gazing out at the river.
