1. Collars and tags can fall off. Microchips provide more permanent identification.

2. Theft Prevention. If your pet has a microchip, it increases the chances they’ll return home because the microchip provides proof of ownership. 

3. Emergency Medical Care. When a pet is found injured or sick, a veterinarian will scan for the microchip in order to contact the owner for the pet’s vital medical history and to secure treatment authorization. 

One last reminder: a microchip must be registered with an information database like AKC Reunite in order for it to work.
