Ministry of Finance Plans 2027 Negative Income Tax to Target Low-Income Aid, Signals Possible VAT Hike The Ministry of Finance plans to introduce a full-scale Negative Income Tax (NIT) system in 2027, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said. Under this system, citizens with low incomes would receive direct support from the government, while higher earners would receive little or no assistance. Nearly all citizens are expected to file income declarations so the government can identify those most in need and allocate funds more effectively, replacing broad cash handouts used in the past.

The Ministry of Finance is preparing to implement a full-scale Negative Income Tax system in 2027 to provide targeted support for low-income citizens, while also considering a VAT increase to boost state revenue.
