There is so much left to discover! All these butterflies were named as new species from the USA within the last 15 years! #NewBflyUSA
Our #NewBflyUSA, Oeneis tanana, was featured in last Sunday's Mark Trail comic strip: http://comicskingdom.com/mark-trail/2016-06-12 …
It's official! Our #NewBflyUSA has been formally named!

Yay! Finally got the page proofs for #NewBflyUSA! Soon it will be published...
Let's celebrate with the Queen! https://t.co/ZaLMHjXqcU
Just a few days from submitting #NewBflyUSA for publication! Still a few questions, that future studies can hopefully resolve. So excited!
Yeah Baby!! 1st "complete" draft of #NewBflyUSA sent to coauthors! So here's a truly "Fiery" Skipper to celebrate! https://t.co/sJIze4pddp
Nothing today but #NewBflyUSA. So nice to spend a full day reading & writing, uninterrupted!
Focused on #NewBflyUSA again tonight. Starting to think this would have made a great Masters or PhD for someone. Still 100% fun though!
First draft of #NewBflyUSA nearly complete (~85%). Figures almost ready, next couple weeks for detailed edits by all coauthors. & loose ends
Big shout out to my friends up north who spent the afternoon digging through their collection to help me with #NewBflyUSA! U know who U are
I mean, there is so much to the story- morphology of adults & genitalia, DNA analysis, biogeography, & tons of cool literature! #NewBflyUSA
I can't remember the last time I had this much fun writing, & writing, & writing. I kind of feel like a Graduate Student again! #NewBflyUSA
Spent all day working on #NewBflyUSA, and still #AmWriting!
Well, OK, I've been following #SciCommCamp #entsoc15 and #EntColl2015 too!
Now that 1 coauthor successfully defended his MS thesis, & other coauthors sending data, we should have a good first draft soon! #NewBflyUSA
As usual, no time for writing at work lately; working on evenings and weekends to get a solid draft of our #NewBflyUSA ready for review!
No time to work on #NewBflyUSA at work this week; & waiting on more data & figures from coauthors. Finishing other papers while waiting :)
For the rest of the night, I'll be reviewing old literature on the genus. Thanks to coauthor for so many .pdf's! #NewBflyUSA
Will post more on this in coming days, weeks & months. It's a pretty drawn-out process... #NewBflyUSA
We're studying the morphology and DNA for the first time, and compiling all that is known about them, with many collaborators #NewBflyUSA
And it's not like we're the first to look at these and say- what the??? People have known for years they look different #NewBflyUSA
In this case, it's not like we went out & found something new for the first time; this discovery was made in museum collections #NewBflyUSA
My goal is to just illustrate the process- from initial discovery to formal publication, of a butterfly we recently detected #NewBflyUSA
I'm going to have to be pretty vague about all of this, and try not to reveal the taxonomic group or geographic distribution #NewBflyUSA
Though starting a bit late, I'm going to try to live-tweet the process of naming this new butterfly. Will use #NewBflyUSA as I go...
