a fallen sequoia sempervirens lies on its side in a coastal redwood forest, stretching across an earthen hollow like a bridge. the tree is almost completely draped by verdant undergrowth: leafy greens and ferns, with a tangle of other branches and logs around it. in the background is the surrounding primeval forest, giant thin evergreens. the whole area is shaded, with the late afternoon sun reflecting from leaves and weathered bark of tall trunks.
