Opinion: Why SF must protect its commissions Sophia Andary argues against Prop. D.

SF Proposition D is "nothing more than a thinly veiled power grab, aiming to consolidate control in the hands of a few elites. Removing civilian oversight invites corruption and undermines the accountability that commissions…provide."

Endorsement: S.F. needs to cut its bloated number of commissions. But Prop D is a first draft, not a solution San Francisco has approximately 135 commissions, boards, and advisory bodies. Prop D would trim to 65. That’s completely arbitrary, and could backfire.

The @sfchronicle.bsky.social editorial board has said vote NO on Prop D, calling it “a rushed, sloppy effort that...feels more like a ‘first draft’ than a way to create lasting, meaningful reform."

We couldn't agree more. Vote #NoOnD!

League of Women Voters of San Francisco. No on Proposition D. Here's why: This is a cynical, manipulative, and poorly conceived attempt to limit the ability of regular people to have their voices heard in government decisions. It would eliminate important commissions, end essential checks and balances, and weaken police oversight. The League strongly opposes this anti-good government proposition. Vote through November 5, 2024.
