#LCT7074 arrived at Gold today, 7/6/1944. Off Utah the troopship Susan B Anthony was mined & sank, fortunately nobody was lost. 53 LCTs, 27 coasters & six big MT ships were off Juno' waiting to unload. The work of the Allied navies only began on 6 June. #NormandySailors #dday80
When Force S left Spithead, Talbot’s HQ ship HMS Largs hoisted the signal ‘Good Luck. Drive On’, keeping it flying until the last ship left...7th ML Flotilla played a popular song called ‘We Don’t Know Where We’re Going (Until We’re There)’. #Elan #Drama #NormandySailors #DDay80

It’s 25 May folks. 🧵At 2330 tonight, 80 years ago, Operation Neptune began when the signal went out for sealed orders to be opened. Half an hour later the military holding camps on the south coast were sealed. #NormandySailors 📷@portsmouthnews via @TheDDayStory

So now that I’ve finished #NormandySailors #DDay reading for a while I’ve challenged myself to read some books which have been on my shelves for FAR too long without being read cover to cover. These were the first. It’s been an extraordinary, illuminating but grueling journey.
I’m super excited to let you know that #NormandySailors now has an audio publication date! It will be available for sale on 14 May across 60+ retail & library digital distributors, including Audible, Apple, http://audiobooks.com and Google Play.
The narrator is Julian Elfer.

Nice to see Operation Postage Able getting some attention from @BBCSouthNews You will be able to read more about this and other COPP operations in #NormandySailors when it’s out! https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cv28w27r8ddo
At least 200,000 Allied sailors took part in Neptune, & more fought the wider battle. They weren't taxi drivers, but active combatants, maintaining a ceaseless watch & making the Bay history's greatest defended encampment. I hope I’ve done them justice. #NormandySailors. 📷@I_W_M
#NormandySailors presents the work of the Allied navies as a forgotten naval battle, the Battle of the Seine Bay, although geographically it spread well outside that congested and vulnerable body of water. 📷@USNavy
At most you may find one or two sailors, usually operating landing craft on 6 June. Sailors appear as passive facilitators whose only role was to ferry the troops to the beaches. There are more books about paratroopers. #NormandySailors tries to redress that balance. 📷@USNavy
