Tonight, we have the last Full Council of the current four-year term. Tower Hamlets Labour cllrs will move this motion seeking to hold Lutfur Rahman and his Aspire Party to account for the collapse of proper democratic governance in the Town Hall for a second time in the past decade. #NotBestValue

It is now a week since the Govt strengthened its intervention in Tower Hamlets Council under Lutfur Rahman's leadership. There is no sign of any change of attitude in the Town Hall. Just a whole load of big political decisions being rushed out without scrutiny before 'Purdah' kicks in. #NotBestValue

Another e.g. in the latest 'Your East End' of Tower Hamlets Council implying Mayor Rahman is building new homes that were actually commissioned by Tower Hamlets Labour's Mayor pre-2022. Stories like this back in 2010-14 were ruled to be in breach of the Code of Practice on Publicity. #NotBestValue

Its now a thousand days since Aspire's Mayor Lutfur Rahman glibly declared a "waste emergency". Despite this and spending an additional £5 million, refuse + recycling collections continue to be missed, including this pile which has still been left even after being reported 4 times. #NotBestValue

Watched this Cabinet sub-committee meeting earlier. To be fair, the reports published are clear about the poor quality of service currently and the Mayor asked some good questions. However, the exclusion of Opposition cllrs + absence of tenants means Aspire is marking its own homework. #NotBestValue

Fourteen more constituents in our advice surgery today, including one distressed homeless family who have had a leak into their flat for more than a year. Will chase up the repairs but this poor service illustrates how Aspire's Mayor + cllrs are failing Tower Hamlets homeless families. #NotBestValue

I'm not on the Overview & Scrutiny Committee this year, but if i was i would definitely be challenging the Mayor + senior officers why nearly a thousand days into his self-declared "waste emergency", Tower Hamlets Council's recycling rates are still so lamentably low. #NotCleanNotGreen #NotBestValue

Over the past few weeks, Mayor Rahman + his Aspire Party have tried to deny they are increasing Council Tax. Here in the papers for Wednesday's Full Council meeting is proof they are raising it by 4.99% for a 2nd year running. Tower Hamlets Labour cllrs oppose this uncessary tax hike. #NotBestValue

Have been taking a closer look at Mayor Lutfur Rahman's plans to spend £6 million on Best Value. This is classic Tower Hamlets Council. Instead of accepting the need to change his own behaviour + allow transparency/scrutiny, he is proposing several highly-paid and unnecessary new jobs. #NotBestValue

Have learned the reason local food banks have seen a massive reduction in deliveries from Tower Hamlets Council is 'cos Mayor Rahman has cut funding for the Food Hub by £350,000. Meanwhile, as food banks are forced to turn people away, £3 million lies unused in an Anti-Poverty Reserve. #NotBestValue

Thanks Kevin. I suspect they have spent much more advertising this Relief Fund than the £3,183 that has been awarded to these 114 households. Note also that 2/3 of applications were rejected. Given he is putting up Council Tax by 5% again from April, this needs an urgent rethink. #NotBestValue
