THE POTENCY OF UNGOVERNABLE IMPULSES by @older.bsky.social was a terrific way to end #NovellaNovember. I love how Mossa and Pleiti are progressing and I can’t wait to read more!
Next audiobook, for a change of pace: LEGENDS & LATTES by @travisbaldree.bsky.social!

Continued the #NovellaNovember reading list with 2 classics. My verdict: Ernest Hemingway is properly rated. Old Man and the Sea was a perfect novel. Albert Camus is waaay overrated. The Stranger was mid.

A poor photo of the Thor Pedersen’s The Impossible Journey - a man standing in a scenic location with hills and trees behind
In the book world November appears to be both #NonFictionNovember & #NovellaNovember - both of these are fitting my mood hugely.
Lots of bulky non fiction library books & world literature novellas for reading in bed.
Just started Pedersen’s The Impossible Journey - not one I’d emulate!

#NovellaNovember book 7: We Speak Through the Mountain by Premee Mohamed
I loved The Annual Migration of Clouds when I read it earlier this year, and this is just as good. Such an interesting world and I can't wait to see what happens in the next one.
I feel bad that I fell off of my #NovellaNovember / #Novellavember. Thursday I fell victim to what I think was food poisoning, and I can never concentrate on reading, writing, or even television when I don't feel well. Yesterday I finally went to urgent care and ... I have a bowel obstruction.
THE BALLAD OF BLACK TOM by @victorlavalle.bsky.social is chilling and disturbing [complimentary]. And LaValle’s turns of phrase are exceptional! (Also I didn’t know it was within that mythos before I started 😅)
Next for #NovellaNovember: THE POTENCY OF UNGOVERNABLE IMPULSES by @older.bsky.social!
it's still #NovellaNovember! add an adventurous lesbian interlude to your holiday break with my @qospress.bsky.social book LITTLE NOTHING: queenofswordspress.com/product/litt...

Book Review: A Feast For The Senses by Nicole Falls 5🌟
A cute short close proximity romance. Funny, quippy story.
I enjoyed how I felt like I was one of their friends being told the story.

FLYAWAY by Kathleen Jennings was remarkable. Despite its modern setting, it felt like a classic fairy tale of the original kind, in the best way, creepy and mythic.
My next #NovellaNovember audiobook is THE BALLAD OF BLACK TOM by @victorlavalle.bsky.social!
Hi #booksky, I hear it's #novellanovember or something like that and do I have a book for you! Audition For The Fox is a story of time travel, trickster gods, and revolution, blurbed by N. K. Jemisin, Karen Russell, Cat Valente, and other wonders! 💜🦊

Today's #NovellaNovember / #Novellavember book is Crypt of the Moon Spider by Nathan Ballingrud, the first in the Lunar Gothic Trilogy. It delivers exactly what's promised: Gothic horror on the dark side of the Moon.
Book 6 of #NovellaNovember: Murder by Memory by @oliviawaite.com
I finished reading this at a cocktail bar killing time before going to a play, which feels perfect. So happy I finally got around to reading this one, it is so fun and I can't wait for more of them. Great little cozy mystery.

The past several days of #NovellaNovember / #Novellavember (because I've fallen behind), in several posts.
I started listening to The Scammer this weekend and I’m really enjoying the story. This is still #NovellaNovember but I think I will sneak in this full length book. #DiverseBookSky

Spread Me by Sarah Gailey
This is in the style of Finnish Weird & I love it. It's like The Thing but you can't mention The Thing & also you might want to sort of have sex with the thing. At its heart this story is about embracing our differences and being ourselves.

THE TUSKS OF EXTINCTION by Ray Nayler was disturbing, intense, and brilliant. Highly recommended!
My next #NovellaNovember audiobook is FLYAWAY by Kathleen Jennings!

Day 14 #NovellaNovember #Novellavember. Treble Swift and the Solar Symphony by Jim Beard. Fun space opera. In a future where the solar system is split between the SolTerran Union and the United-Outer Planets, pilot Treble Swift discovers a plot by SolTer to break the detente and attack the UOP.

Belated Day 12 of #NovellaNovember / #Novellavember is Will Ludwigen's brilliant A Scout Is Brave, one of my favorite books of 2024, and my second favorite Ludwigsen book (Acres of Perhaps still edges it out.
Graveyard Shift by M. L. Rio
This novella feels like the beginning of an apocalypse or the flashback that solves all the mysteries. The story unravels slowly through multiple perspectives, until you're left with the horrible knowledge of what's happening.

The Extra by Annie Neugebauer
An unreliable narrator spinning a chilling tale of memory and deception.

Love & Other Killers by Brynne Weaver
Killers who kill bad guys is a trope I enjoy, and this book actually did that in romcom format. Somehow. I'm coming back for more in both series.

More Paul Cornell: Rosebud. It's been days and I can't get this story out of my head. Fantastically well done, creating a human civilization I can easily imagine coming into being and a terrifyingly powerful alien race.

UPRIGHT WOMEN WANTED by @sarahgailey.bsky.social was fun! Yes, despite the dystopian future part! Great character and worldbuilding, adorable queer romance, and fuck yeah, the Resistance! ✊🏻
Next for #NovellaNovember, THE TUSKS OF EXTINCTION by Ray Nayler.
Day 11 #NovellaNovember / #Novellavember: The Primrose Path by Bram Stoker. Posting about Stoker's birthday a few days ago reminded me that I've fallen off of one of my ongoing reading projects, which is to own and read everything Stoker wrote. So I brought this novella on this week's business trip.

Day 10 of #NovellaNovember / #Novellavember. Don't Sleep With the Dead is a sequel to @nghivowriting 's The Chosen and the Beautiful, which was a fantasy retelling of the Great Gatsby. Don't Sleep With the Dead takes place years after the novel's ending, showing us what became of Nick Carraway.
