Thank you to Finland & Austria for important and well‑organised #OSCEMC2025 in extraordinary surroundings. #OSCE remains crucial for discussions on European security today and in the future. Multilateral cooperation & 10 principles of Helsinki Final Act remain essential.
Three OSCE staffers remain in detention despite ministerial appeals. After more than 3 years, there seems to be no apparent progress on their release. One of them, Maksym Petrov, has recently been hospitalized. Read the full story here. #OSCEMC2025

It’s a wrap. #OSCEMC2025 has concluded. We reiterated our support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Lasting peace and security require accountability. The world has changed since the signing of #HelsinkiFinalAct, but its principles remain valid.
We had the honor of moderating the side event “Preparing the democratic future of Belarus: A conversation with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya” in the margins of the #OSCEMC2025 Ministerial Council on 4 December 2025 at Hofburg, Vienna.
Brutal repression & human rights violations persist in Belarus since the fraudulent presidential election 2020. At OSCE Ministerial Council #OSCEMC2025 37 countries called on Belarus to end its support for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, stop repression, & release all political prisoners.

During the #OSCEMC2025 I met with Ministers & Heads of Delegations of 🇦🇱,🇧🇾,🇬🇪,🇰🇿,🇰🇬,🇲🇹,🇲🇳,🇳🇴 & 🇸🇪 to discuss initiatives to furthar #MediaFreedom. Dialogue & constructive cooperation are effective tools of diplomacy to advance OSCE commitments.
Sweden at #OSCEMC2025: “Our support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity remains unwavering … the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act are clear: sovereign rights, political independence, and territorial integrity must be respected. Borders cannot be changed by force.”

#MediaFreedom is a strategic investment in security. Our event “No Security Without Media Freedom” organized with the MFA of Finland 🇫🇮, @germany.diplo.de 🇩🇪 & the Media Freedom Coalition at the #OSCEMC2025 stressed that independent & ethical journalism makes societies safer & more resilient.
Fruitful meeting between Dag Hartelius, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sweden and Sasha Romantsova of Center for Civil Liberties ccl.org.ua/en/. Civil society make crucial contributions to accountability efforts in Ukraine and should be supported. #OSCEMC2025
ODIHR:s work to protect and promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law deserves our strongest support.
Dag Hartelius, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sweden, had a fruitful meeting with Director of @odihr.pl Maria Telalian at the OSCE Ministerial Council. #OSCEMC2025
Peak of OSCE year! Sweden's priorities for the Ministerial Council #OSCEMC2025:
✅Defend the European Security Order
✅Support Ukraine
✅Hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine
✅Promote & Protect #HumanRights & #Democracy
Another OSCE Ministerial, another round in my love-hate relationship with the organization. 😅
Read here about the unusual venue shift, notable absences, and why there's still no 2027 OSCE Chair. #OSCEMC2025
