Last session is about integrating Omnissa with your ecosystem using their platform APIs. I’m not going to live-tweet this one.
#OmnissaONE
Horizon on AHV will run on CE. So you can run it in a home lab.
And that wraps up the session.
#OmnissaONE
When registering a VM as a golden image, it will register it in Horizon LDAP with a machine name and a pairing key. You can't have two machines registered as a golden image with the same name. If updating the agent, you need to rename the VM
#OmnissaONE
Also recommending removing the CoPilot Windows Store app as this will cause sysprep will fail.
#OmnissaONE
New flow for building Horizon Golden Images. One, recommending adding a TPM. There is also a box to register if the machine will be a golden image that will register it with a connection server, and leave the Instant Clone Agent installed as this is used for Cloneprep. #OmnissaONE
When updating a template, you go back to the original VM, do your updates, and then create a new template. You then update the pool to use the new template.
#OmnissaONE
Process for creating a golden image in Prism Central:
Create and customize your VM
Create a template from the VM
Also need to create a Compute Profile in Horizon. Compute profile defines CPU & Memory resources and selected at pool creation. This reduces number of templates to manage.
#OmnissaONE
Can you get Instant Clones on AHV? No, but you can get the same outcome using native technologies in Nutanix.
Instant Clones is more about the customization of the VM using Cloneprep, not the method of creating the VM clone.
#OmnissaONE
Clone Customization: sysprep is supported today, Cloneprep is still being worked on. #OmnissaONE
The Horizon Architecture and process for adding Prism Central for management is basically the same as Horizon on vSphere.
It should look and feel the same operationally #OmnissaONE
When cloning VMs on Horizon, it's cloning the disk extent and doing copy-on-write. #OmnissaONE
Now getting an overview of the Nutanix platform. I'm not going to cover this. If you want to know more about Nutanix, I would check out nutanixbible.com or the official documentation. #OmnissaONE
Horizon is now managing Sysprep profiles and not relying on the hypervisor to manage it. This allows Horizon to manage sysprep more efficiently and use a standardized template to make it run a little faster.
Horizon does not touch the golden image, it makes a clone of it
#OmnissaONE
Supporting multiple hypervisors required rewriting the provisioning engine to make it more generic. #OmnissaONE
Migrating pools to AHV requires creating new Horizon automated pools. Persistent Desktops can be migrated with Nutanix Move.
Note: this will require putting full clone desktops into a manual pool
#OmnissaONE
Supported deployment scenarios:
Greenfield and Brownfield: within pod (mixed vSphere and AHV)
Cloud-Pod Architecture with mix of pods on both platforms
All on Nutanix - AHV in private cloud or NC2 on AWS (GCP/Azure coming later)
#OmnissaONE
Horizon on Nutanix was announced at .Next in May 2025 with an over-subscribed Beta that ended in July. Limited Availability started in July and GA will be following in the future.
Limited Availability has been mentioned a few times - it's fully supported by Omnissa just limited access. #OmnissaONE
Customer Profiles for Horizon on AHV:
Existing Horizon 8 and Nutanix customers considering AHV migration
Existing Horizon 8 customers looking to migrate to Nutanix
Existing Nutanix customers looking at Horizon #OmnissaONE
Multi-hypervisor strategy was one of the first things that Omnissa started looking at when they learned they were being spun out. Wanted to give customers the choice of where they run their EUC workloads.
Nutanix was first choice because of their EUC background and mature platform #OmnissaONE
Next session is Providing Ultimate Flexibility with Horizon 8 on Nutanix AHV. #OmnissaONE
WS1 Assist is fully supported on Windows Server. Remote Access, Remote Shell, File Management, and log gathering is supported. #OmnissaONE
As mentioned yesterday in co-management session, assignment and removal is being decoupled. Admins can define how an app will be removed when policy is changed or enterprise wipe is triggered. This applies to both servers and desktops.
#OmnissaONE
There are a few things different with Server Management.
New default behavior on servers is to leave all resources on servers. Admins have to explicitly tell WS1 UEM to remove something. Goal is to avoid scenarios where a UEM Admin will accidentally take down a business.
