The body is a transitory phenomenon and I am continually surprised at the subtle things a body can do, whether telling stories through shapes and pose or conveying emotion through a welter of angles and elbows. In my personal life I've always been attracted to an inner persona that animates and shines through the physical. I've been looking around for some travel opportunities and find myself thinking about finding models in new cities. I've had amazing luck over the years to meet really wonderful new friends whose stories twine into the adventure. Perhaps one of my LEAST favorite aspects of model photography is that I find myself being persnickety over someone's image -- I'm not fond of tattoos on a model, particularly since I started with so much patterning and still, as here, like a dramatic one-light where the body produces shadowing. Tattoos disturb the image and bother me terribly. I should note that I'm fine with them otherwise -- they're an art form and deserve to be shown off. I'm just not the one to do that task. Most important though is the attitude that comes through the face and eyes. My favorite people convey SO much through their expression and eyes. Sometimes I find myself overly-dismissive -- looking for and failing to see that ineffable "something" in a portfolio. I debate myself frequently -- who am I to make judgement from such an oblique bit of evidence? But I'm also quite sure in my judgement. Life's too short to chase everything. I sometimes think snap judgements are a superpower. I've met con-men and immediately recognized them. The occasional person whose arc I can easily see in my minds eye. Whether it's a vibe or a recognition, I don't know, but there it is.
