the Omru horn Inn Kilima Village
Djamin sat quietly at the table across from the food bar where Reth, the village chef worked.
He went over the last couple of days in his mind, and his situation with Subira. Though he was happy with her, he wasn't sure about their relationship and how it would develop over time. He was a very levelheaded man, and he wasn't sure how his relationship with a majiri would turn out.
And even though he had gotten close and very friendly with Hodari, he didn't want to ruin any relationship with him either. It was hard enough gaining Hodari's trust, and he most certainly did not want to ruin that.
Djamin figured that he might want to have some advice on the matter.
Ashura came downstairs and noticed a look of concern on Djamin's face.
Djamin looked up from his meal to see the big Majari man standing over him like a father figure. "Something bothering you, son? I'm sensing some conflict."
Djamin smiled at the elder Majari. Ashura was always there to help or offer advice or lend his support.
"I'm in a bit of trouble, I'm afraid, and I'm not exactly sure how to proceed.
The big Majari man frowned, his pointed ears twitching. "I'm not sure what you mean, but I do know there's been talk around the village."
Djamin lifted a purple eyebrow. "Do tell. Who's been talking about me?"
Ashura let out a boisterous laugh. "Well...I can't lie. Everyone talks about you, Ame. You're quite a popular topic of discussion around here, but I have noticed more talk when Subira arrived in town several weeks ago." He sat down at the table across from Djamin, folding his big hands on the table in front of him. "She talks about you a lot, but then so do a lot of people." He looked at Djamin thoughtfully. "But I'm guessing that this is more serious than people let on."
Djamin nodded. He took off his square spectacles and placed them on the table. He rubbed his green eyes. "I wasn't expecting this to happen, but I've really become attached to your people, Ashura. Two in particular, and I'm concerned about how my relationship with them will affect our lives."
"If it's who I think it is, then I would definitely proceed with caution." Hodari appeared at the doorway, entering the tavern.
He noticed Djamin talking to Ashura at the table. "Hey, darlin'."
"Hello, Hodari. Everything okay?" Ashura asked.
"Can't complain. Just comin' in for my lunch."
