I think my favorite Fergus insight was how much empathy he had for Amélie. It would be so reasonable for him to feel hurt or bitter, knowing she was his mother and she resented him, even hated him. Instead, his true parents taught him compassion, and that’s all he has for her.

I loved getting to see so much of Fergus in this episode — I think he’s the one we’ve seen the LEAST of in the last few seasons in terms of true character moments, and this was a great one for insight into both his troubled childhood and his ultimate stability as a Fraser.

Young Ian promising to take his Da’s place to guard Jamie’s left had me choked up too. He’s truly grown so much from that sweet little boy tagging along like a puppy behind his uncle to being just as formidable of an ally and protector as Ian or Murtagh.
