Severe storms in central PA brought wind damage, hail, flooding and one tornado. I was a few weeks away from graduating from Penn State and I barely got any work done that day. The tornado was about 10 miles east of campus.

On this date in 1994, State College recorded the largest 1-day snowfall on record. The month of March 1994 ended as the 2nd wettest and 3rd snowiest March on record. It was also the only time a snow depth was recorded on every day in the month of March. #PAwxHistory
One year and one day after two tornadoes touched down in Pennsylvania, two more rare February tornadoes brought damage to Luzerne, Lackawanna, and York Counties.
The tornado in Luzerne & Lackawanna Counties was rated EF2 and the York tornado was an EF1. #PAwxHistory
On this date in 2016, 2 tornadoes touched down in the Keystone State. An EF1 impacted portions of Bradford County and an EF2 caused notable damage in Lancaster. 🌪️ #PAwxHistory

The flood of January 1996 ranks as a top 10 crest for a majority of stream gauges in Pennsylvania.

The flood of 1996 ranks as a top 10 crest for much of the state showing just how widespread the event was. In some locations where it ranked as the highest crest, the flood was surpassed by events in 2004 or 2011. #PAwxHistory
High temperatures observed on January 19, 1996.
Total precipitation observed for January 18-20, 1996.
Dramatic snow depth changes were observed between the 18th and 20th of January 1996. Some locations saw snow depth decrease by more than 20 inches!
Temperatures surged into the 50s and 60s on the 18th and 19th with precipitation totals over 3" in the same areas that had the highest snow depth. 2 feet of snow melted in as little as 12 hours. #PAwxHistory
The winter of 1995-1996 was already cold & snowy leading up to the blizzard on January 6-7. Yet another storm on January 12-13 brought an additional 12" to 24". An impressive 36" to 50" of snow covered the ground. #PAwxHistory
